The Comptroller is responsible for the timely, accurate, and meaningful preparation of the financial statements and reporting, oversight of the annual audit. The scope of this position may include multiple entities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements and reporting to enhance the organization’s profitability, optimize the use of the available resources, and increase the organization’s ability to expand community benefits.
  • Monitor the general cash flow of the organization.
  • Coordinate the annual audit conducted by outside agency for each fiscal year.
  • Conduct random internal audits in preparation for the annual audit. Maintain all systems to assure necessary information is accurately entered and readily available.
  • Report internal audit results to the Finance Director for presentation to the CEO and Board of  Directors.
  • Formulate and participate in negotiation of the Indirect Rate for each fiscal year (final and provisional).
  • Advise Program Directors and coordinators in the preparation of specific program budgets as requested.
  • Work with the Finance Director and other Department Directors to develop policies and procedures for all financial activities of the organization.
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Government Accounting Standards, as applicable, to maintain operation of the General Ledger System.
  • Oversee and manage accounting software system.
  • Recommend to management investment strategies for consideration for the KANA Finance Committee.
  • Prepare reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Provide management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises the staff accountants within the Finance Department by planning, assigning, training and directing work. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Partners with the Finance Director for interviewing and hiring employees; evaluating performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university and four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. CPA strongly preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of various forms of software applications, including but not limited to accounting, database, Internet, e-mail, spreadsheet and word processing.
