Alaska Governor Renews Support for Community Health Centers with 2025 Proclamation
Governor Mike Dunleavy has once again proclaimed the first week of August as Community Health Center Week in Alaska, aligning with National Health Center Week, observed August 3-9, 2025. This annual recognition celebrates the vital role health centers play in providing affordable, quality care to communities across the nation and throughout Alaska.
In his Community Health Center Week Proclamation, the Governor stated, “We are grateful for the community health centers and their employees who continue to support Alaska’s healthcare system for generations to come.”
Alaska is home to 29 Community Health Centers with over 200 sites, employing nearly 2,700 healthcare professionals. Together, they serve one in six Alaskans each year, ensuring access to care regardless of a person’s ability to pay.
Health centers strengthen Alaska’s healthcare system by:
- Providing consistent, reliable care options
- Reducing challenges that limit patient access, especially in rural and remote areas
- Easing the financial strain on Alaska’s healthcare system annually
The Alaska Primary Care Association’s Chief Executive Officer, Nancy Merriman, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s continued support, stating, “We appreciate Governor Dunleavy’s continued recognition of the critical role Community Health Centers play in Alaska. Health centers are essential to helping our families stay as healthy as they can, so they can make Alaska resilient and productive. This proclamation honors the dedication of Health Center teams working tirelessly to serve their communities.”
APCA invites you to join in celebrating Community Health Center Week by:
- Finding and learning about your local health center
- Thanking a healthcare worker for their service
- Attending health center-hosted events in your community
Together, we can celebrate the important work of community health centers and help build healthier communities across Alaska.
